Luther: grace overlooking sins
Commemoration of Martin Luther, Teacher, Reformer, 1546
Meditation:
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.—Romans 8:1-2 (NIV)
Quotation:
Because of the incomplete gifts and because of the Spirit, there is nothing damnable in those who are in Christ. Because our flesh has not been killed, we are still sinners, but because we believe in Christ and have the beginnings of the Spirit, God so shows us his favor and mercy, that he neither notices nor judges such sins. Rather he deals with us according to our belief in Christ until sin is killed. ... Martin Luther (1483-1546), “Preface to the Letter of St. Paul to the Romans”, par. 12
